Do you know that MOT tests are not optional but a legal requirement?

Every tenth person in UK is actually not aware of the legal requirements of MOT tests

Almost every tenth person in UK is actually not aware of the legal requirements of MOT tests. It means 3.4 million UK drivers are clueless about these tests, shocking, isn’t it; and it doesn’t end here, most of drivers are even unaware of insurance and road tax requirements. People have mixed opinions about carrying a spare tyre and a warning triangle with them.

Kwik Fit has played a vital role in the new research by involving their two thousand plus motorists and results from this population were also very worrying where more than two third were clueless about legal requirements of MOT tests. Most of them also made very serious mistakes due to ignorance and misconception about the tests and ignored very important maintenance tests.

About 40% motorists believe that oil checks are covered by MOT whilst 38 per cent expected that their batteries are checked and sorted for any malfunctions during MOT tests. Almost twenty one percent drivers were those who attempted to fix minor faults by own in order to pass their MOT.

In reality MOT tests inspect the vehicle identification number, lights and wipers, steering and suspension, seats, seat belts, horn, fuel injection system, emissions, doors, mirrors, brakes, wheels and tyres but other tests like engine oil and batteries are not covered by MOT. As we discussed about MOT test awareness, nine per cent of the people didn’t even realise that car insurance was compulsory. Furthermore, ten percent were even unaware about the compulsion of displaying a tax disc.
