 Built in in 2014 Golf, Jetta, Passat, Beetle
 Exhaust gas recirculation system
 30% extra mileage and 30% lower CO2 emissions

Volkswagen is introducing the most recent and modern version of its 2.0 litre four-cylinder diesel engine in the 2014 model years of Beetle, Golf, Jetta, and Passat. All these new models come equipped with most advanced TDI® Clean Diesel Technology and will likely go on sale in the fall of 2014.

The new EA288 engine will ultimately substitute all the 2.0 litre TDI® Clean Diesel engines currently fitted in Audi and Volkswagen TDI Clean Diesel models. It is a turbocharged, four-cylinder engine with common-rail; direct injection fuel delivery system and makes 150 horsepower (don’t forget that it is a raise of 10 hp over the in progress engine) and 236 Lb-Ft of torque. This new engine only shares the bore spacing with the unit swapping it. A number of transformations have been made in order to reduce emissions. It uses a sophisticated Exhaust Gas Recirculation System in order to improve throttle response. VW also promises enhanced fuel economy too, but it hasn’t made known particularly what amount of fuel it will save.

The company claims that new engine has same displacement as of old unit but it uses low-friction camshaft bearings to reduce mechanical power loses.

Douglas Skorupski is Manager of Technical Strategy at Volkswagen of America, he said; “The Volkswagen Group is a leader in Clean Diesel technology and with the introduction of the new EA288 engine, we are excited that our family of TDI® Clean Diesel vehicles is continuing to improve and will be even cleaner and more fuel efficient and powerful. We’re excited to see the increasing numbers of customers able to enjoy the reliability, durability, fuel-efficiency and power of Clean Diesel engines.”

Volkswagen has sold more than one million cars and SUVs powered by High mileage, TDI® Clean Diesel engines in the U.S. The TDI models in the Audi and Volkswagen engine line-up delivers up to 30 percent improved fuel economy and 15 to 30 per cent lower CO2 emissions than equivalent petrol engines.
