Volkswagen has unveiled a new concept car named “Taigun” during the 2012 Sau Palo International Motor Show in Brazil. It is based on the a slightly stretched version of the Up’s platform. It features a new 1.0 litre turbocharged three cylinder engine producing 108 horsepower and maximum torque of 129 lb-ft, the vehicle reaches a top-speed of 186 km/h (115 mph), attaining 0-62mph (0-100km/hr) in 9.2 seconds. It is a compact SUV and will rival Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Moka. From the looks of it, the Taigun is production ready and is unveiled to take the public reaction. According to an official VW release stated,“ the prospects for the Taigun being seen at Volkswagen dealers someday are quite high — what is crucial here is the overall response of the public to this concept”. The claimed average economy is 60.1mpg based on front wheel drive new small family platform (NSF) used on the ‘Volkswagen up!’.
There is a fair chance of it going to the production, expect it to be in the showrooms by 2014.
