Volkswagen is developing a range topping 286bhp R version of Volkswagen Golf Mk 7 which will be the most powerful Golf produced in company’s history. It will be launched at the Frankfurt motor show and will make it to showrooms by early 2014. The Golf R will lead the new Golf range with Golf GTI closely behind it. The Golf R 2.0 TSI engine producing 286bhp and 280lb ft of torque. It comes mated with a six speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. It goes from 0-62mph in a blistering time of 5.0sec and has a top speed of 155mph. The latest Golf R will be all wheel drive using the new Haldex 5 system featured on the new VW Golf 4Motion. Despite the increased performance over the old 267bhp Golf R, its economy is said to have improved to 40.4mpg and CO2 emissions cut to 163g/km.
