Toyota has issued another recall of 7.4 million vehicles worldwide, the biggest since Ford’s recall of 8 million cars in 1996. This time it’s the power window switch on the driving side. The last recall was issued by Toyota in 2009 over floor mats and brake problems. This brings the total of almost 16 million units in three years. According to Toyota the latest issue hasn’t caused any serious injuries. “If commercially available lubricants are applied to the switch in an attempt to address the ‘notchy’ or sticky feel, melting of the switch assembly or smoke could occur and lead to a fire under some circumstances.”, said Toyota in a statement.
It is estimated the Toyota will have to bear 1.2 billion in costs and the new car sales will be affected. The Japanese car manufacture assured that the owners of the affected models will be contacted and asked to bring in their cars for checks. The affected models include Corolla, Yaris, RAV4 and Camry bought between 2007 and 2010. Do you have any of the these?? Do let us know what will you be doing???
