Toyota is working on a convertible version of its sporty GT 86, it will be called the FT- 86. The Japanese car maker has released a sketch that shows the coupe’s lines will be shifted over to the convertible. The roof is expected to be a basic cloth in order to keep the weight as less as possible. The current Toyota engine for GT 86 will be used to power the new version which is set to make its debut at Geneva Motor Show. The current engine for GT 86 is a 2.0 l four cylinder unit that produces 197bhp. The extra weight will result in different 0-62mph value.
This early sketch reveals the coupe’s clean lines will be transfer over to the convertible almost unchanged, while the roof is likely to be a basic folding cloth set-up to keep weight as low as possible. According to Toyota, there are prototypes for the convertible GT 86 or FT 86 already on the road. The FT-86 is likely to be available to buy in the first quarter of 2014 and the expected price is £26,000.
