Audi has unveiled a brand new member of its ‘RS’ family at the Detroit Motor Show – the RS7. Taking the place of the RS6 Saloon in the line-up, the pumped-up four-door coupe features the same 552bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as the recently-revealed RS6 and is mainly aimed at the US market, although it will be sold in the UK. With all that power and permanent four-wheel drive, the RS7 goes from 0-62mph in an exceptional 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph. There’s the option to raise the speed limit to either 174mph or 189mph by ordering the Dynamic or Dynamic Plus package respectively.
Thanks to cylinder deactivation technology, fuel economy is 28.8mpg. UK launch details and pricing are yet to be announced, but officials suggest that the RS7 Sportback will reach dealers in July priced close to £78,000. Power for the RS7 Sportback comes from the same 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine used by the recently unveiled third-generation RS6 Avant. It produces 552bhp at 5700rpm and 553lb ft of torque between 1750rpm and 5500rpm – some 138bhp and 148lb ft more than the less highly tuned version of the same V8 in the S7 Sportback.
