After the North American owners of F10 M5 and F12/F13 M6 were warned not to drive their vehicles, amid discovering oil pump problems, BMW has now decided to initiate a recall in the UK as well. Earlier this week, BMW US released a technical bulletin that customers of F10 M5 and F12/F13 M6 cars manufactured between July and September 2012 are advised not to drive their cars. Now an internal investigation has resulted in discovery that 19 British cars may also be affected by the same problem. It all started with the discovery of a fault with the oil pump during the routine checks that could cause “severe engine damage”. It has a simple solution, change the faulty pump with a new one.
Though there have been no reports of any engine failures yet, but the problem can cause the engine to suddenly lose oil pressure. The fault has also affected the deliveries of S63TU V8 turbo BMW M5 and M6 in the US which are stopped until it is fixed.
The repair will be carried out under BMW’s standard warranty as per their usual car recall procedures
