Honda has shaken up the estate market with a Tourer version of its Civic hatch, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The five-door model might have been the concept but don’t be surprised if this version comes out to be the production version at September’s Frankfurt show. Honda Civic Tourer engine will include Honda’s new 118bhp 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel and is likely to emit less than 100g/km. The Honda Civic engine lineup is also likely to include 2.2 litre diesel, plus 1.4 and 1.8 litre petrol cars.

The Honda Civic Tourer will be built in Swindon, Wilts, and will go head-to-head with the new British-built Toyota Auris estate, plus estate versions of the Focus, Renault Megane and Skoda Octavia. Also on Honda’s Geneva stand is a CR-V with the same 1.6 i-DTEC Honda Civic diesel engine as the Civic. In the bigger SUV, this emits 119g/km of CO2, and reduces road tax bills to £30 a year.
